Our Arbiter Of Morals

The Republican party loves to talk about morals. Remember the Moral Majority? The morality of abortion, doctor assisted suicide, stem cell research, cleaning up the internet from pornography, the drug laws...
It would seem to me that a political party so filled with this sense of righteousness would consider telling a lie to be morally wrong too. Doesn't that make sense? I mean they want to put statues of the Ten Commandments on all courthouse lawns. Isn't Thou Shalt Not Bare False Witness one of the biggies?

Greg Sergeant's Blog The Plumline has tracked down an interesting lie being spread by the Republicans. That this stimulus package has 30 mil slated (their word) to save a wetland mouse around San Francisco as Nancy Pelosi's pet project. They're calling it Pelosi's mouse. They know it's a lie, but it's such a catchy phrase who cares about the truth. After all if you tell a lie often enough and loud enough sooner or later people will start believing it. Reagan did it. Bush Sr. did it. W did it. Why is the morality party nothing but a bunch of big fat liars?
