Enforced Conformity

Crackpot U is in the news again. The more light shines on the place the better. Now if we could only get all those who graduated from this looney bin out of our Justice Department the better.

Liberty University has banned students from forming a club for Young Democrats stating: the club's status was being dropped because it had supported candidates whose views were "contrary to the mission of LU and to Christian doctrine," even though the club itself was officially pro-life and anti-gay-marriage.

Kevin Roose spent one semester at LU, and came away, lo and behold, learning that not every student there was a brain washed robot. Wow, those students are actually human beings capable of free will! What will he discover next?

Okay here's my point.
I spent four years at a small Baptist college (now university) forty miles from the nearest known sin. It's rules weren't near as draconian as LU and there were only two major infractions that could get you expelled -- having a girl in your dorm room and getting caught drinking or using drugs. We were forced to attend chapel twice a week and be lectured on numerous topics, but most students used the time for catching up on their sleep (and oh how that is biting me in the ass in my classroom today). Small private religous colleges have always been havens for indoctrination and brainwashing, and most students pay lip service to it, then do their own thing.
So why then is LU so different?
To quote Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet right after he's been stabbed, Tis but a scratch, but tis enough. Tomorrow you will find me a grave man.
Of all the students that go through LU most will get their diploma hit the real world and learn to fit in. As Roose's article states many LU faculty and students voted for Obama, though they won't publically admit it as there would be consequences (hooray for the secret ballot). They live in the real world, not the fantasy world of the fundamentalist warlords that rule over their institution. It's the true believers. The robots that have swallowed the party line hook, line and sinker that maybe only ten percent of the student body that we need be worried about. They are the ones who are getting government jobs and are the cancer killing the justice department, social security, state department, and other agencies with their premellinial, dominionist dogma actually wanting to start major wars so Christ can return. They were the storm troopers investigating and leveling accusations agains any Democrat or rogue Republican across the country like Seligman in Alabama.
LU has shown it's true colors and something needs to be done. Even though they are a private institution they receive government money from the GI bill and are subject to federal regulation and accreditation. At the very least this should make them lose accreditation.
